"For ingenuity, thrift and charm, Mr. Diedricksen's tiny structures are hard to beat." - NY Times, 2011
They're not your average Band of Builders.
Derek "Deek" Diedrickson and his ensemble of Massachusetts builders create rustic man-cave retreats out of discarded and salvaged materials. Deek is the brains behind the operation. His little-but-bigger brother Dustin is his right hand man. Max Damage is the raw muscle of the group, and Shippey is the all-around get-it-done (whenever he gets around to it) guy.
With the help of rare finds from scrap yards, backyards and construction sites, these guys create the perfect hideaways in the great outdoors. Most of the projects are constructed on site and are not accessible by vehicle, so they trade in their power tools and build them the old fashioned way – with manpower. Described as a "mad scientist," Deek incorporates personalized designs into each project, and his special touches are anything but traditional. His structures have included quirky features like windows made of old washing machine doors, funky furniture made out of pallet wood, and even transparent roofing that brings a little bit of nature and a lot of natural light into any ready-made rustic getaway.
Band of Builders represents one aspect of this ensemble – raw space makeovers on the cheap. But these guys are jacks-of-all-trades who are ready to take TV's build space by storm any way they can.
